Actually, I don't think there's ever been a smoother deliver. I say that having seen none. But it was nothing like in the movies. No screaming or yelling. Not even any crapping or peeing on the delivery table (I've heard that can happen during labor.) We went in to the hospital early this morning at 5:30 am. Around 7 amor so they induced labor. The contractions started soon after. Around 9 am the doctor broke her water. At that point she decided to take the epidural. We decided early on that the all natural birth is way overrated. We prefer a less painful birth. The pushing started at about 11:15 am. About 2 hours later he was born at 1:34 pm. It was quite a shock seeing him for the first time. It's not like in the movies at all. Babies don't come out looking like the Gerber baby. No they come out covered in blood and this white waxy stuff that makes their skin look white. Like an alien or something. Plus a trip through the canal often leaves their head with this cone shape. They almost look like some sort of alien gray when their first come out. What's funny is I was reading all this in my dad's baby book. It explained all this and how it can be shocking at first. I still was pretty shocking even after reading that. I think the back of his head came out first. It looked like his neck was being stretched. It looked very painful. Plus, he looked like an alien.
After that, it was time to cut the umbilical cord. I really didn't plan on cutting it. It's not that I have a weak stomach. Besides, the umbilical cord is small potatoes after you just witnessed the birth. I just assume let the doctor do that crap. I don't feel like I have to cut it to feel like I'm a part of the whole birthing process. So my doctor tricked me into cutting it. He says, "Well just hold this clamp." I'm like, "uhh, ok." Then he says, "Ok, now open it and then close it." At that point I'm like, "Oh fuck." They said I'd be glad I did it, and as of right now.... I really don't care. Same as before.
On to the pictures.
I saw them put their hand over his crotch. I thought they were shielding him from the camera. Actually, he was taking his first piss outside the womb.
"It hasn't even been an hour and life already sucks."
He's pretty much all cleaned up here.
Finally got him all bundled up.
Just look at that face.
This is pretty much how he was by the end of the day. All tuckered out.
I'm impressed how well behaved he is. When he first came out he cried, but he was loud or anything. I haven't heard any blood curdling screams yet. He seems pretty easy to calm too. He cries when the nurses where prodding and poking him, but stops when they stop. He actually was too quiet. The nurses wanted him to cry to clear out his lungs, but he didn't want too. By the end of the evening, he was so warn out he just wanted to sleep. Even when it came time to try to feed him, he didn't take. He just wanted to sleep.
I was also surprised that he opened his eyes almost right away.
So welcome Samuel into this world.

Seriously though
I'm glad all of you came out looking so great and Samuel looks adorable. Of course I have not had time to get a gift but if you let me know what you guys
most need and I'll send that and a bit of a surprise.
